Accessibility-Driven Development
Speaker: Adrian Romański
Building accessible applications is not just about compliance - it’s an investment in a better software development process. This presentation will show the extra work required when accessibility hasn’t been considered from the start.
A lack of an accessibility-first approach leads to mounting technical debt, maintenance challenges, and degraded UX. We’ll follow the story of a developer who neglected accessibility early in a project. When real accessibility requirements had to be met, many decisions had to be reversed and significant portions of code rethought. By analysing code snippets, attendees will see how an accessibility-first mindset can greatly reduce technical complexity and enhance final product quality.
More about the speaker:
Adrian Romański
My programming adventure started in high school with C++. I went on to study robotics at PJATK, but after gaining some professional experience, I realized it wasn’t my true path. I switched to web development, beginning as a Java developer with Spring, then falling in love with Angular. Since then, I’ve grown into a full-stack developer specializing in Component-Driven Architecture with Storybook, app optimization, and Nx-based monorepo structures. In the past year, accessibility (A11Y) has captivated me just as much as Angular did at the start. Outside of work, I spent over 15 years hardcore raiding in World of Warcraft, and I’m a big anime fan and squash enthusiast.
